Pokemon Diamond / Pearl Battle Items Guide Last updated 1-4-08 By R2 ========================================================================== ========================================================================== Contents/About Section 1) Miscellaneous Other At the beginning instead of at the end. Crazy. Section 2) Berries Of all shapes, sizes, and flavors. Section 3) Power/Damage Boosters The difference is subtle but important. Section 4) Effect Extenders If you have a Light Screen that lasts more than four hours, consult your doctor. Section 5) Single-Pokemon Items The one and only you -- er, user. Section 6) Speed Cutters So many you'd think going last all the time was a great idea. Section 7) Legal Junk Cite your sources. Pokemon can hold items to use while in battle. This is a list of those items, where to get them (if I can find that part), and what they do. A lot of the stuff in this guide comes from a thread on the Smogon.com forums, namely this one: http://www.smogon.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21848 ...which as of this writing is a big damn mess. In my obsessive need to organize and categorize information, I wrote this guide. As you read, the term "Holder" means "The Pokemon that's holding the item you're reading about right now". It's a lot shorter. Items listed as "One-Time Use" are just that -- they're used once, and then they're gone. In multiplayer battles, Battle Tower, or Wi-Fi battles, the item is returned to the holder after the battle is over. In the regular single-player game, the item is gone forever. You can use the move Recycle to get back a One-Time Use item you've consumed. ========================================================================== ========================================================================== Section 1) Miscellaneous Other Items not bound by a category or effect. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Big Root If the holder uses Absorb, Drain Punch, Dream Eater, Giga Drain, Leech Life, or Mega Drain, the HP gained is increased by 30%. The HP gained from Ingrain and Aqua Ring is also boosted by 30%. Leech Seed heals 30% more, but doesn't inflict more damage on the target. Big Root does not increase the health gained from Milk Drink, Recover, Slack Off, Softboiled, or Wish. Black Sludge Held by wild Croagunk and Toxicroak. If the holder is a Poison type, they will recover 1/16th of maximum HP at the end of each turn. All other types will take damage equal to 1/16th of their maximum HP at the end of each turn. BrightPowder Prize in Battle Tower for 48 BP. Raises Evasion by one level, as though Double Team had been used once. Destiny Knot Given by an old couple in the Fight Area. If the holder is successfully Attracted, so is the Pokemon that caused the infatuation. Flame Orb Prize in Battle Tower for 16 BP. The holder is inflicted with the Burn status at the end of the turn. The effect remains even if the item is removed. Focus Band Prize in Battle Tower for 48 BP. Has a chance of allowing the holder to survive a hit with at least 1 HP, even if the attack would have KOed the holder. I haven't been able to find what the chance is, but estimates generally run at 10-18%. Focus Sash Given by the man on Route 212. If the holder has max HP, Focus Sash guarantees they survive any attack with 1 HP. If the holder is not at full health when attacked, the item will not activate. If the holder takes damage, but does not activate Focus Sash, and then recovers to full HP, Focus Sash can still activate. Focus Sash will allow the holder to survive all hits of a multi-hit move like Fury Attack or Triple Kick, provided the holder is at full health on the first hit. Does not protect against Doom Desire or Future Sight. One-time use. King's Rock Found by Pickup at levels 11-30, held by wild Poliwhirl. When using a move that doesn't have a secondary effect, there is a chance of flinching the target. I don't know what the exact chance is. Lax Incense Found on Route 225. Raises Evasion. Leftovers Found in Victory Road, found by Pickup at levels 81-100, held by wild Munchlax. User recovers 1/16th of maximum HP at the end of each turn. Mental Herb Found on Route 216. Cures Attraction. Activates when the Pokemon is Attracted. One-time use. Power Herb Prize in Battle Tower for 32 BP. Removes the need to charge up for a turn before using Bounce, Dig, Dive, Fly, Razor Wind, Skull Bash, Sky Attack, and Solarbeam. Using Skull Bash still grants a Defense boost. Blast Burn, Giga Attack, Frenzy Plant, Hydro Cannon, Hyper Beam, Roar of Time, and Rock Wrecker still need to recharge after use. One-time use. Quick Claw Found in Jubilife City, held by Sandshrew, Sandslash, Meowth, Sneasel, and Zangoose. Gives the user an 3/16 chance to go first, ignoring the Speed statistic of all Pokemon in battle. Higher priority moves will be used before lower priority moves, regardless of Quick Claw. Razor Claw Found in Victory Road, prize in Battle Tower for 48 BP. Raises the holder's Critical Hit rate one level. Razor Fang Found outside Battle Tower, prize in Battle Tower for 48 BP. When using a move that doesn't have a secondary effect, there is a chance of flinching the target. I don't know what the exact chance is. Scope Lens Woman in the Fight Area Pokemart, Battle Tower prize for 48 BP. The holder has its critical hit rate increased by one level. Shed Shell Held by wild Venomoth, Beautifly, and Dustox. The holder can switch out, even if under the effects of Arena Trap, Magnet Pull, Shadow Tag, Block, Mean Look, Spider Web, Bind, Clamp, Fire Spin, Magma Storm, Sand Tomb, Whirlpool, or Wrap. Shell Bell Given in Hearthome City. When the holder uses a move that deals damage, the holder recovers HP equal to 1/8 of the damage it did with its attack. Sticky Barb Held by wild Cacnea. Holder takes damage equal to 1/8 its max HP each turn. Each time the holder is hit with a move that requires physical contact, Sticky Barb deals damage equal to 1/8 of the attacker's HP. If the attacker is not holding an item when Sticky Barb damages them, Sticky Barb will "attach" to them instead -- the Pokemon previously holding Sticky Barb is not anymore, and the Pokemon that attacked is. Toxic Orb Prize in Battle Tower for 16 BP. The holder is inflicted with the intensifying (Toxic) Poison status at the end of the turn. The effect remains even if the item is removed. White Herb If any of the user's stats are ever decreased any number of stages, the White Herb returns those stats to what they were before any boosts or penalties. One-time use. Wide Lens Prize at the Game Corner for 1000 coins, held by wild Yanma. Provides a 10% Accuracy boost to all the user's moves. For example, a 50% accuracy move becomes 55% accurate. Zoom Lens Prize in the Game Corner for 1000 coins. Raises accuracy by 20% if the holder goes last in a turn. ========================================================================== ========================================================================== Section 2) Berries Berries are automatically eaten when needed, generally when the holder passes a certain HP threshold or is affected by a status ailment. This consumes the berry, making every one of them "One-Time Use" items. Many berries can be found on berry trees as you progress through the game. Where to find those trees isn't listed here, to list every tree in the game would be an overwhelming task. Besides, they go away as soon as you pick the berries, making such an entry of dubious utility. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Healing Berries These restore HP, or in the case of Leppa, PP. Where else was I gonna put it, huh? Oran Berry Given by Berry Master, held by wild Pichu, Pikachu, Sentret, Shuckle, Zigzagoon, and Bibarel Restores 10 HP when the holder is at half HP or less. Sitrus Berry Given by Berry Master. Restores 25% max HP when the holder is at half HP or less. Leppa Berry Given by Berry Master, held by wild Mime Jr., Mr. Mime, and Skitty. Restores 10 PP to a move that has run out of PP at the end of the turn. Aguav Berry Given by Berry Master. Restores 1/8 max HP when the holder is at half HP or less. Confuses Pokemon with a Lax, Naive, Naughty, or Rash nature. Figy Berry Given by Berry Master. Restores 1/8 max HP when the holder is at half HP or less. Confuses Pokemon with a Bold, Calm, Modest, or Timid nature. Iapapa Berry Given by Berry Master. Restores 1/8 max HP when the holder is at half HP or less. Confuses Pokemon with a Gentle, Hasty, Lonely, or Mild nature. Mago Berry Given by Berry Master. Restores 1/8 max HP when the holder is at half HP or less. Confuses Pokemon with a Adamant, Careful, Impish, or Jolly nature. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Status Berries These heal status ailments whenever they're inflicted. Activates when the holder is Burned. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Pinch Berries These berries give boosts when your HP get low, or "in a pinch". That's why they're called that. Generally the holder's HP drops below 25% to activate these. If the holder has the Gluttony ability, its HP need only drop to 50%. The moves Bug Bite and Pluck will steal these berries and immediately activate them to benefit the user of Bug Bite/Pluck. Apicot Berry Transfer in via the Pal Park. Raises holder's Special Defense one stage when HP falls to 1/4 max HP or less. Custap Berry The Custap Berry activates when the Pokemon reaches 25% health. The turn immediately following activation, this Pokemon will go first. Higher priority moves will go before lower priority moves, regardless of Custap Berry. Ganlon Berry Transfer in via the Pal Park. Raises holder's Defense one stage when HP falls to 1/4 HP or less. Lansat Berry Transfer in via the Pal Park. Raises the holder's Critical Hit rate one stage when HP falls to 1/4 HP or less. Liechi Berry Transfer in via the Pal Park. Raises holder's Attack one stage when HP falls to 1/4 HP or less. Petaya Berry Transfer in via the Pal Park. Raises holder's Special Attack one stage when HP falls to 1/4 HP or less. Salac Berry Transfer in via the Pal Park. Raises holder's Attack, Defense, Speed, Special Attack, or Special Defense (selected randomly) two stages when HP falls to 1/4 HP or less. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Absorb Berries When the holder is hit with a super-effective attack, the berry is consumed to halve the damage done by that attack. But then it's gone, so watch out for that next hit. Chilan Berry Given by the Pastoria Berry Lover, held by wild Rattata and Raticate. Whee. Jaboca Berry If this Pokemon is hit by a physical attack, the attacker takes 1/8 of its max HP as damage. The holder must survive the hit for the Jaboca Berry to activate. This damage is not blocked by Rock Head. Rowap Berry If this Pokemon is hit by a special attack, the attacker takes 1/8 of its max HP as damage. The holder must survive the hit for the Rowap Berry to activate. If the holder of this item uses Sleep Talk, it will select a random move on the first turn, and receive the boost as usual, but all subsequent uses of Sleep Talk or the move chosen by Sleep Talk will fail until the holder switches out. If the holder is brought in from a Pokemon that used U-Turn to initiate the switch, and the holder has U-Turn, it must use U-Turn as its next move. If the holder doesn't have U-Turn, it can freely select a move. Baton Pass does not suffer this limitation, the recipient of Baton Pass may choose whatever move it likes. If the holder uses Trick, it can select a new move next turn, even if the item that was given to it is another Choice item. If a Pokemon recieves a Choice Band through Trick and then uses a move in the same turn (because the Pokemon using Trick was faster), it is locked into using that move by the Choice Band. It may not be duplicated or sold for profit without permission. This is probably the first guide I've crafted for a popular game while it was still new, so what hey, that disclaimer actually means something now. No guarantee, promised or implicit, is given for the authenticity of the information contained in this guide, but if you screw up your Pokemon game it's not exactly the end of the world. Whatcha gonna do, cry about it?
